Lightyear engineers equipped the electric car with motor-wheels, maximising luggage and cabin space. The cargo compartment of the liftback can hold up to 640 litres of cargo. And electric motors mounted in the wheels demonstrate the maximum efficiency of the drive.

Speed indicators, however, are rather "ordinary". The family electric car is not the fastest of modern models. The car accelerates to "one hundred" in 10 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 160 km/h. But such "sluggishness" is paid off by record indicators of power reserve.

The LightYear 0 60 kWh traction battery gives a range of up to 625 kilometres without recharging under the WLTP cycle. The double-bend solar panels can add up to 70 kilometres of energy beyond the day's range. In cloudy weather, the solar panels generate up to 35 kilometres in a day. Thus, if you only use an electric car for short journeys, it really is possible not to recharge for months. According to the calculations of the brand's developers, in the climate of the Netherlands you can save on EPS for two months, and in sunny Spain or Portugal - as much as 7 months.

The driving range also depends on the choice of speed. Here, too, the solar car proves its efficiency. Thanks to its motor-wheels and aerodynamics, the LightYear 0 at a road speed of 110 km/h spends only 10.5 kWh every 100 kilometres. With these conditions, the battery will last an impressive 560 kilometres.
The world premiere of the world's first mass-produced "solar car" took place on 9 May. Dutch brand Lightyear presented its first electric car under the brand 0. The whole car is covered with solar panels with a total area of 5 m2 and under certain weather conditions can drive for months without recharging. The SEV (solar electric vehicle) was 6 years in the making. LightYear 0 is characterised by a special, futuristic design and a very long range. Externally, the developers tried to create a really new car architecture. The five-metre liftback received an unusual elongated body with a unique aerodynamics coefficient - below 0.19. At the same time, the mass of the entire structure is only 1575 kg.
Freedom of movement anywhere

Lightyear 0

The Lightyear 0 philosophy is minimalism in details, impeccable eco-friendliness and comfort. There is nothing superfluous in the interior: seats made of natural materials and dashboard with built-in multimedia with a diagonal of 10.1 inches. The equipment will be only minimal: 4 USB-C ports, climate and cruise control, heated front seats, rain / parking sensors and all-round camera. It is likely that engineers were guided by economy considerations - the price of the car and in such a basic assembly "bites".

The start of production is scheduled for autumn 2022. The brand entrusted the assembly of SEV under contract to Finns from Valmet. The first deliveries are already in November this year. But not everyone will be able to afford a super-ecological liftback. The price of novelty starts from 250 thousand euros. In total, 946 unique solar cars will be produced in the Lightyear 0 series. The next model, if the first one is successful on the market, will be more budgetary.
